Who SIL is for

Is SIL right for you?

You need help most days

SIL suits people who need regular support with daily living, often across the day, evening or overnight.

You are ready to move out

Maybe your brothers and sisters have already moved out and now it is your turn. SIL lets you set up a life of your own, with support close by.

Your family needs a new plan

When parents can no longer manage daily care at home, a shared home with the right support gives everyone peace of mind about the years ahead.

Living well together

A home, not a facility

Housemates who get along

The right mix of people matters more than anything. We share what we know about your interests, routines and support needs with your housing provider, so the home works for everyone.

Your home, your way

We support you to choose how your room looks, help plan the house menu and have your say at regular house meetings. The people who live there run the home.

Settling in at your pace

We start gently, keep familiar faces on your roster and check in often while you and your housemates find your rhythm. Over time, we focus on building your own skills, so you can do more for yourself in the home you share.

Respite support

Respite support that gives everyone a break

Our support workers step in so family carers can rest and recharge, while participants enjoy a change of routine and a taste of independence. We provide the support, not the accommodation.

Support when you need it

Respite support can be a few hours, a day or a weekend, at home, out in the community, or during a stay you have arranged elsewhere.

A break for families

Regular respite helps families keep caring at home for the long run. Some book a weekend every month, others plan a longer break once or twice a year.

Built around what you enjoy

Respite can feel like time off for everyone. We can plan it around your interests, such as fishing, art, or practising cooking and budgeting for life on your own.

Questions

Common questions about shared living and SIL

Funding and pricing

Paid from: Core Supports, Assistance with Daily Life. SIL must be included in your plan. Respite support usually comes from the same Core budget.

We charge in line with the NDIS Pricing Arrangements and Price Limits, and we set it all out in your service agreement before support starts.

How each plan type works

Last reviewed: October 2026

SIL is NDIS funded help with everyday tasks in a shared home, such as personal care, cooking, cleaning and getting out into the community. It is designed for people who need a higher level of daily support.

Yes. SIL needs to be included in your NDIS plan, and the NDIA decides whether it is reasonable and necessary for you. If it is not there yet, talk to your support coordinator or the NDIA about home and living supports. We are happy to help you understand the process.

No. SIL is the support you receive at home. Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) is the housing itself, for people with very high support needs. Some people have both, and many people receive SIL without SDA.

Yes. We work with you to match support workers to your needs and preferences, and we aim for consistency so you see familiar faces.

No. Your housing provider looks after who lives in the home. We share what we know about your interests, routine and support needs so the mix works for everyone.

Respite support gives family carers a break while a support worker looks after the participant. We provide the support only, not the accommodation. It can be at home, in the community, or during a stay your family has arranged.
